Prince Edward recently gave a rare insight about the royal family, particularly the important roles that Queen Elizabeth II have been carrying out until today.

In the unearthed interview, the Queen’s youngest son credited his parents for working tirelessly despite their age. Prince Edward also said that the Queen and Prince Philip didn’t want to put their feet up even though most people their age are already enjoying their retirement.

“To be honest, the business is a people business. That’s what it’s about… It’s that interest and continuing interest in people which is what keeps us all going and it keeps them going… It’s the passions and interests that they have,” he said.

Prince Edward also said that his grandmother, the late Queen Mother, was the same as well. He also explained how the royal role is dramatically different from the jobs many Britons would carry out in their lifetime.

“You can’t avoid it in this job, you can’t put your feet up. There is no pension plan,” he said.

In related news, Prince Edward recently made headlines after the reason why he is not called a Duke just like Prince Charles and Prince Andrew has been revealed.

According to the royal title rules, the decision on what to call the members of the royal family resides entirely on Her Majesty. Under the Nov. 20, 1917 letters patent, King George V restricted the title of Prince or Princess and Royal Highness to children of a sovereign, the children of the sovereign’s son, and the eldest living son of the eldest son of a Prince of Wales.

But in 2012, the monarch decided to change the rules to extend the title of Royal Highness to include all the children of the eldest Prince of Wales. But due to King George’s initial rule, the Queen inherited the title of prince and her children were automatically referred to as prince or princess.
