Prince Harry's statement that he "will never walk away" from public service and the royal family despite stepping back from royal duties was met with both praise and mockery on social media.

During his appearance on "The Late Late Show with James Corden" Thursday, the Duke of Sussex got cadid about his decision to resign as a senior working royal and move to California with his wife, Meghan Markle, last year.

"It was never walking away, it was stepping back rather than stepping down," Prince Harry told James Corden, a longtime friend who attended his wedding in 2018. "It was a really difficult environment as I think a lot of people saw. We all know what the British press can be like. It was destroying my mental health. This is toxic, so I did what any husband and what any father would do which is 'I need to get my family out of here,' but we never walked away."

"Whatever decisions are made on that side I will never walk away," he said in reference to the royal family. "I'll always be contributing. My life is public service so wherever I am in the world it's going to be the same thing."

However, some netizens were not convinced, claiming he "did walk away" the moment he decided to step back from his royal duties and moved to the U.S.

"But, Harry you did walk away and betrayed your country as well," one person wrote, while another commented, "He did walk away. It’s a fact. It’s his right to do so, but own it."

"Prince Harry said he would never walk away from the royal family and duties. No he gets on a private jet and fly’s away from them instead," another netizen commented.

"Prince Harry doing a James Corden show is quite odd because he’s a royal. He also stressed that he didn’t ‘walk away’ from his family, he’s just ‘stepping back’. said UK media is toxic but him doing this show & then Oprah soon is just gonna feed them. Why? Stay private," Aysha Ridzuan wrote.

Others claimed Prince Harry and Markle seemed to have misunderstood what it means to walk away or what public service is about.

"They don't seem to understand public service or walking away for that matter," one netizen wrote, before adding, "The lack of self-awareness is mind-boggling."

"I don’t think he understands the concept of ‘public service’ or ‘walking away.’ Id like to understand though, how moving to America assisted him with the toxic British media...that’s be interesting to explore," another added.

However, fans expressed support for Prince Harry's decision and said they were glad to see him happy and free from the royal family.

"Happy he has walked away from you Carnival to live the life he and his family deserve far away from the control and restrain of the institution," one wrote.

"Hard times for haters...who pretend they don't care about the couple...but they waste their precious time to comments everything the couple do. Keep hating as they are living the best life," another commented.

"He looks absolutely happy, charismatic, damn hot and fit. Those army drills he did are getting viral all over sm and people are drooling. Go Harry oh how your mother would have loved this," a third fan wrote.
