It’s been almost two decades since Princess Diana died in a car accident and her now grown-up sons Prince William and Prince Harry are planning a grand tribute to their mom.

According to Mirror, Harry and William have asked BBC and ITV to make emotional documentaries for Princess Diana’s tribute. The two princes have selected a few close friends and family to take part in the said event.

Among the selected is Diana’s closest friend, Julie Samuel, Prince George’s godmother. The late princess’ brother, Lord Spencer, who gave a heartfelt eulogy at her funeral, is also expected to be part of the tribute.

“The Duke and Prince Harry have selected close friends and family members to speak about Diana, and some will be speaking about her publicly for the first time,” one insider told Sunday Times.

The ITV documentary will air in July and will feature Diana’s legacy and achievements in her work for HIV and landmines, which inspired William and Harry to also give their time to humanitarian causes. Meanwhile, the BBC tribute will air in August and the program will focus on the fatal crash that caused Diana’s untimely death. It will also recall the people’s reactions nationally and worldwide to her passing.

People remain torn on Diana’s death. Mohamed Fayed, father of Diana’s boyfriend Dodi Faye, believed that Diana’s death was not an accident. He thought that the crash was a plot by the royal family and the British secret service, Daily Mail reported.

Meanwhile, Ken Wharfe, who served as Diana’s royal officer for six years, blamed her death to her boyfriend’s erratic behavior. Dodi made a poor decision for allowing Henri Paul to drive even if he had allegedly been drinking. He also told the driver to drive fast to outpace the photographers.

“I can say with certainty, drawing on decades of police experience, that Diana’s death was not murder but a dreadful accident that should have been avoided,” Wharfe wrote, Harpers Bazaar reported. “She was not the victim of shadowy figures who regarded her as an embarrassment to the Establishment, but of her boyfriend’s erratic behavior and her bodyguard’s mistakes.”
