Prince Charles and Prince William should consider rewriting the rules of the monarchy since they will not be young monarchs. Queen Elizabeth, who was crowned in her 20s, could be the last young monarch of the United Kingdom.

On the podcast “Images of Diana,” historian and royal commentator Sarah Gristwood said that popularity of the royals and the British monarchy will not diminish over time. But some changes should be put in place in the coming years since the royal family is already aging.

“The Queen when she came to the throne was a young, glamorous beautiful 20-something. It looks like we are never going to have a young monarch again. So, we may have to re-write the rules about what royals do with their lives to avoid the sense there’s sometimes been with Charles that he has a sort of job in waiting,” she said.

Prince William had a full military career before he decided to work as a full-time royal. According to royal photographer Arthur Edwards, Prince William and the future generation of British monarchs will just keep doing what Prince Charles taught them.

“Do your duty, and at the same time, he did tell William to finish [his job]. He did have to finish his career early, Prince Charles, to become a member of the Royal Family. He doesn’t want William to do the same,” he said.

But when asked if the royal family is still as revered now as it was before, the royal experts said that they are not sure if the word even applies to the British clan. Edwards said that Her Majesty is still revered. However, the same cannot be said about Prince Charles.

And when it comes to Prince William and Prince Harry, Edwards said that the royal siblings are quite modern in their approach. And they may very well be considered the new royal family.
