Princess Diana was so in love with James Hewitt during their five-year affair.

According to Ken Wharfe in his book “Guarding Diana: Protecting The Princess Around the World,” the former officer flew out to Saudi Arabia in December 1990 before the outbreak of the Gulf War. The Princess of Wales kept on writing him a letter every day sometimes twice a day and Princess Diana “sent hampers from Fortnum & Mason containing bottles of whisky.”

Wharfe added that the People’s Princess sometimes included shocking materials in her letter to her lover. The former protection officer confessed that there were times when Princess Diana “enclosed copies of adult magazines such as Playboy, Mayfair and Penthouse.”

Wharfe found Princess Diana’s move “rebellious as it was flirtatious.” He admitted that he was against it and he told Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom about his opposition.

He warned Princess Diana not to be too explicit about her affections toward Hewitt in her “copious letter-writing” because it would backfire on her when the letters fall into the wrong hands. However, Prince Charles’ first wife didn’t listen to him.

“Diana was in no mood to listen. Perhaps her infatuation with Hewitt was over, but she was in love with the idea of being in love with a war hero,” Wharfe continued.

There were rumors that Hewitt is Prince Harry’s biological father. This photo fueled the paternal conspiracy theories because Hewitt and Prince Harry share the same hair color. In addition, they have the same pointed nose and smile.

According to Wharfe, the malicious rumors angered Princess Diana greatly when she was still alive. Prince Harry was born in 1984 and she only met Hewitt in 1986. Wharfe pointed out that the red hair that most speculations cited as proof is a Spencer trait and not Hewitt’s.

Hewitt acknowledged that he and Prince Harry share the same hair color but denied that he is the Duke of Sussex’s real father. According to him, Prince Harry was already a toddler when he met Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s youngest son.

Prince William and Prince Harry formed an immediate bond with Hewitt because he knew how to handle them. He reportedly played with them, read Prince William’s favorite book and invited the two princes, who were interested in all things related to the military, to his army barracks.
