Princess Diana’s good friend and fashion adviser, Anna Harvey, has died.

Years before the Vogue deputy editor’s passing, Princess Diana shared details on how Harvey helped her after she and Prince Charles got engaged. In Andrew Morton’s book, “Diana: Her True Story – In Her Own Words,” Princess Diana only had a dress, skirt, and shoes when Prince Charles proposed to her.

“Suddenly my mother and I had to go and buy six of everything. We bought as much as we needed but that still wasn’t enough. I asked Anna Harvey from Vogue, where both my sisters worked, to come and help me out with the basic things. Like two of this, three of this, one of that,” Princess Diana shared.

Lydia Hawken, a journalist for The Sun, said that it was Harvey that introduced the Princess of Wales to fashion designers Catherine Walker and Victor Edelstein. And after Harvey helped revamp Princess Diana’s wardrobe as a royal, the two women developed a close friendship with each other.

In 1997, Harvey dished on what it was like meeting Princess Diana for the first time. She said that they couldn’t go anywhere without the mom of two being mobbed by the paparazzi. Harvey also brought in too many clothes the first time they met because she had no idea what Princess Diana liked to wear.

“I took one look at her and thought, this isn’t going to be difficult at all. She was about five feet ten and completely in proportion. Her eyes lit up when she saw all the racks – I don’t think she had any idea how many lovely things were out there – and her enthusiasm was contagious,” Harvey said.

After their first meeting at the Vogue House in London, Princess Diana and Harvey’s future hangouts took place in Kensington Palace. And after Princess Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles ended, Harvey said that she noticed a change in the late princess’ style.

“Everything became more streamlines and somehow athletic, in line with her role as a committed charity worker and she moved to navy-blue, greys, and pastels,” Harvey said.
