How did Princess Diana spend Christmas after her split from Prince Charles?

When Princess Diana and Prince Charles were still together, she had to accompany the heir apparent and their sons Prince William and Prince Harry to Sandringham where the royals gather together to celebrate the holiday with Queen Elizabeth II. However, the late Princess of Wales stopped joining them at Sandringham when she and Prince Charles parted ways. Surprisingly, Princess Diana spent the season on her own.

According to former royal chef Darren McGrady, Princess Diana was left to spend Christmas alone while Prince Charles took their two boys to Sandringham.

“It was always quite sad when you were working with the princess the day before Christmas,” McGrady told royal correspondent Omid Scobie on Yahoo’s “The Royal Story.”

“William and Harry would go off to Sandringham and Princess Diana was there on her own. And she insisted the staff spending their time with their families over Christmas, so we would leave food in the refrigerator. So there was the princess, on her own, on Christmas Day.”

McGrady added that Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom was never fond of Sandringham because it was so tight and compact. There were so many people there and so many families that she couldn’t get away.

McGrady recalled that when Princess Diana went for a walk alone, he would often bumped at her. He believed that Princess Diana wasn’t keen on spending the holidays in Sandringham because there were too many people there.

In related news, the royals reunited again for Christmas. They were spotted attending the traditional morning service with Prince George and Princess Charlotte for the first time. The little princess was even seen following her mom Kate Middleton when the latter curtsied to the Queen.

Meanwhile, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were visibly missing during the traditional Christmas walk. It didn’t surprise royal fans because the palace already announced earlier that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex would not be spending Christmas with the royal family. However, many didn’t like their decision, with some calling Prince Harry and Markle “inconsiderate and selfish.”
