Queen Elizabeth II broke royal protocol once many years ago.

In the documentary “Elizabeth: Our Queen,” it was revealed that the queen usually arrives last and leaves first during various events and gatherings. But at Winston Churchill’s funeral in 1965, Queen Elizabeth II arrived before Churchill’s coffin was brought to the venue.

The narrator of the documentary said, “On this occasion it was different: she arrived before the coffin and before the Churchill family and left after both of them. The queen had put her royal privilege aside and bestowed the honor of arriving last to Churchill’s family and his coffin.”

Churchill’s grandson, Sir Nicolas Soames, said that the queen’s sweet gesture meant a lot to his and his entire family. “It is absolutely exceptional if not unique for the queen to grant precedence to anyone. For her to arrive before the coffin and before my grandfather was a beautiful and very touching gesture,” he said.

“Elizabeth: Our Queen” will chronicle Queen Elizabeth II’s life in the late 1950s on this week’s episode. A previous installment focused on what Princess Margaret told the queen when she found out that she has been given the title.

Princess Margaret told her sister, “Poor you!” when she found out that she will be the ruler. Queen Elizabeth II’s friend also recounted a conversation she had with her in the documentary.

“I shall never forget, she came back dressed in black. Coming down the steps of the aircraft and realizing, well that was it. Everything had changed. And being met at the bottom of the steps as Queen,” said the friend.

Queen Elizabeth II became a ruler when she was just 25 years old. In 1947, she tied the knot with Prince Philip. The couple was blessed with four children, namely, Prince Charles, Prince Andrew, Prince Edward, and Princess Anne. With Prince Charles, the queen and Prince Philip have two grandchildren, Princes William and Harry.

The queen and Prince Philip also have two grandkids with Prince Andrew, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Prince Edward’s kids are Lady Louise and James, Viscount Severn, and Princess Anne’s kids are Zara Tindall and Peter Philllips.
