Is Queen Elizabeth keeping her son Prince Charles from ascending to the throne?

A number of netizens are wondering how long the Queen can hold on to her position and if Her Majesty intends to do so for too long to keep her son from reigning. In this forum, online users shared their thoughts about Queen Elizabeth II as the monarch and Prince Charles as the future king.

Many believe that Prince Charles’ failed marriage to Princess Diana and his illicit affair with Camilla Parker Bowles are among the reasons why Queen Elizabeth II doesn’t want him to take over the throne.

“No question Queen Elizabeth II was NOT happy with Charles and Camilla and froze out Camilla for a number of years after the divorce,” Melissa Marshall wrote.

Marshall added that the Queen should have removed the Prince of Wales from the line of succession because it is hypocritical to have a future Head of the Church of England and king who cheated on the mother of his children. She also claimed that Prince Charles had affairs with other women and not only with Camilla.

Dafna Ross believes that Prince Charles’ mess with Princess Diana and the Duchess of Cornwall could also be the reason why Quee Elizabeth is still continuing her reign.

“In my opinion, the Queen is sacrificing herself, holding out on the throne so that Charles will be King for as short a time as possible and William will succeed him as soon as possible,” Ross wrote.

She added that Prince Charles is aware of this and he accepts it for two reasons. First, he has no choice and second, he knows that being the face of the monarchy would harm it.

On the other hand, Chris Smith, a teacher, said otherwise. He believes that the Queen is not keeping her heir from the throne, but she’s just fulfilling her promise.

Queen Elizabeth II made a vow on her 21st birthday that she will serve the nation “all her days.” She repeated the oath at her coronation and said that she will serve until death. So, she will keep her position until her last breath.

In related news, many believe that Prince Charles will still outlive Queen Elizabeth II. The Prince of Wales will still take over the throne, but his reign is expected to be shorter than the current monarch.

Last Tuesday, the royal family celebrated Prince Charles’ investiture. Queen Elizabeth II hosted a reception at the Buckingham Palace to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Prince Charles’ coronation as the Prince of Wales.
