Queen Elizabeth II is offloading a lot of her work to Prince Charles and Prince William.

According to royal author Juliet Rieden, Her Majesty has started to share more of her official duties with the Prince of Wales and Duke of Cambridge. She does this to help them prepare for their future role as the next monarch.

“Prince William is going to be king one day. The Queen is 93 and she’s offloading a lot of her work both to her son and to her grandson,” Rieden said.

“William has really had to up the ante and take on a lot of this heavy lifting.”

Both Prince Charles and Prince William have been taking certain steps as they prepare to be the next king and Prince of Wales, respectively. They have also ramped up their efforts for their future roles.

Prince Charles reportedly held a meeting about the Duchy of Lancaster at Clarence House in February. Just recently, he and Camilla Parker Bowles also visited The Prince’s Trust call center at Nantgarw, near Cardiff to meet over 72,000 people who are involved in the charity.

Meanwhile, Prince William has also attended meetings in preparation for his role as the Prince of Wales. The Duke of Cambridge will soon inherit the $1.3 billion “Duchy of Cornwall” estate along with the title. The Duchy owns 134,000 acres of land in more than 23 countries in the U.K. and provides income to the heir. Last year, it generated $25 million.

Rieden also talked about Prince William and Prince Harry’s split. According to her, the two princes have different roles. However, she didn’t hide her surprise when the Duke of Sussex decided to have a separate charity from the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

“This is Prince Harry and Prince William going their separate way with their wives – they’re almost setting up two separate courts,” she said.

Before Meghan Markle joined the royal family, Prince Harry got along so well with Prince William and Kate Middleton. The three royals were often seen attending royal engagements together and were inseparable that some called them the “royal trio.” However, shortly after Markle joined them, they announced their split, which for Rieden is a “little strange.”
