Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip are the ones who modernized the monarchy not Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

A source close to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex reportedly told CNN that Prince Harry and Markle “single-handedly” modernized the monarchy. The insider claimed that the royal family was full of people who were “inexperienced” at how best to “deploy and harness their values.”

However, royal aides did not agree with the claim. A senior staffer insisted that the Queen was the most modernizing head of state in the royal family and her husband, Prince Philip was there to support her in transforming the medieval institution to a modern one.

“Her Majesty the Queen is the most modernising monarch the institution may ever have,” the source told The Sun.

“The Queen, with the support of Prince Philip, turned it from a medieval organisation to a modern one. They broadcast the coronation, did the first-ever reality series on TV, opened Buckingham Palace up to the public. The Sussexes might think they have changed everything but they have only been around five minutes.”

Prince Harry and Markle broke the Queen’s mantra on their ITV documentary. The monarch has been practicing the “never complain, never explain” mantra.

Many also felt that they were complaining about their privileged lives and some took their words as an attack to the monarch.

PR expert Mark Borkowski deemed the Sussexes’ move an “utter disaster.” According to him, as royals, they allow the intrusive lens into their lives and they are out of control. Also, the royal family is publicly funded unlike celebrities. The movie stars could demand to approve quotes and pictures or control photo opportunities, but the palace has an uneasy relationship with the media and the public.

Meanwhile, royal biographer Angela Levin was asked for her opinion about Prince Harry and Markle’s emotional interview. She praised the couple for being “incredibly brave” in opening up about their struggles. However, she felt that there was more to it.

For her, Prince Harry felt and looked “incredibly miserable and unhappy.” Sh also believed that the duchess was unhappy and “incredibly said,” so the couple couldn’t help each other.
