Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the royal family are reportedly not planning anything to formally commemorate the 25th death anniversary of Princess Diana on Aug. 31.

The family now wants to "draw a line under it" after celebrating the 10th and 20th death anniversaries of the late Princess of Wales, according to royal editor Rob Jobson.

While Jobson expects Prince William and Prince Harry to post a tribute for their mother in honor of her death next week, he said, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Charles are likely to "stay silent" during the occasion.

Calling the decision to snub the occasion "a little surprising," he said it might be because the royal family does not want any more focus on Princess Diana.

Jobson said the late princess has transitioned from a mere public figure to a historical figure, and anyone younger than 25 would not remember her alive. "It's almost as if she's passed into history," he said.

Writer Jon Conway also believes that the reason behind the snub is that they do not want to give too much focus on someone who has passed for so long. "The reason there will be nothing said or done to mark the anniversary of her death is the same reason that there is almost nothing in London to mark her life," he said.

"It's quite surreal when you consider she is one of the three most significant royal figures of the last 200 years: you have Queen Victoria, you have Queen Elizabeth II, and you have Diana," he told the publication. "The establishment simply do not want any more focus on Diana. This is a woman who did untold good in her life, and whatever difficulties she caused for the family, it is unthinkable to not commemorate her."

Princess Diana died at 36 after her car crashed on Aug. 31, 1997, while being pursued by paparazzi.

In commemoration of her 20th death anniversary in 2017, her sons -- Prince William and Prince Harry created a documentary celebrating her life. At the time, the brothers revealed that the 20th anniversary would be the last significant death anniversary of their mother that they would formally commemorate.
