Queen Elizabeth II’s favorite grandchildren are not Prince William and Prince Harry.

The Queen is often seen with Prince Charles’ sons Prince William and Prince Harry. However, according to royal biographer Ingrid Seward, Her Majesty is more herself when she’s with Princess Anne’s children, Zara and Peter Phillips.

“I think the Queen is closest to Zara and Peter as they were her first grandchildren and have always been the favourites,” Seward said.

“She’s at her most relaxed around them; as a child she used to give Zara a smack around the legs when she was naughty, which was frequently.”

Seward added that the monarch prefers Zara and Mike Tindall over the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. She explained that the Queen gets on really well with Prince William and Middleton but doesn’t have the same “easy-going giggly time” when she’s with the Tindalls.

Queen Elizabeth II reportedly prefers the company of ordinary people like Mike. Mike is down-to-earth and can easily make the Queen laugh. He also makes Zara very happy.

Meanwhile, Queen Elizabeth II and Zara share the same passion for horses. The Queen has invested in several horses. She’s also very proud of her niece for riding horses.

On the other hand, Middleton is allergic to horses. In 2009, Middleton watched Prince William at a society polo match and stayed at the tent in the corner of the field. Australian author Kathy Lette approached her and asked her why she didn’t join the party referring to the champagne reception and encouraged her to play polo herself, but Middleton made a surprising response.

“I’m allergic to horses,” the Duchess of Cambridge said.

In addition, Zara and Mike keep themselves away from “royal dramas,” so Queen Elizabeth II finds light relief with them. When the Queen is with the Tindalls, she can be herself and not care about the alleged rift between the Sussexes and Cambridges which makes her very sad.

Meanwhile, Christopher Andersen felt that Prince William is the Queen’s favorite grandchild. According to him, the Queen embraced Middleton as the “suitable mate for her favorite grandson.”

E! News royal correspondent Melanie Bromley, on the other hand, thinks that the Queen is closer to Prince Harry. She added that the Queen and Prince William’s relationship is “half family and half business” because he is the future king.
