Kate Middleton is reportedly allergic to horses.

In 2009, Daily Mail’s royal correspondent Rebecca English reported the Duchess of Cambridge’s shocking confession about her allergy to horses, which really surprised many. Middleton was watching Prince William at a society polo match when Australian author Kathy Lette saw her at the tent in the corner of the field and approached her.

Lette asked Middleton why she didn’t join the party, referring to the champagne reception taking place in a marquee next door. The duchess said that she had to pay attention to every second because she would be discussing the game in minute detail later on.

“You can't be having much fun here,” Lette insisted, adding “Why don't you play polo yourself?'”

“I’m allergic to horses,” Middleton replied.

According to English, Middleton’s allergy only made royal life awkward for her because all the members of the Firm loved horses. She has to get used to a “permanently tickly nose” because “there is not a Windsor alive who doesn’t eat, sleep and breathe horses.“

Queen Elizabeth II is known for her love of horses. In fact, she still rides horses whenever she has the time and so does Prince Philip. The Queen and the Duke of Edinburgh were even spotted riding horses separately in November.

Queen Elizabeth II was seen riding her beloved black Felly pony, Carltonlima Emma. The pony sported a red poppy to mark the start of Remembrance week.

On the other hand, Prince Philip went carriage riding with two black horses in the fields. He was joined by two stablewomen who sat behind him.

Queen Elizabeth II’s daughter, Princess Anne, and granddaughte, Zara Tindall, also inherited the same passion for horses. Both competed in the Olympics. The Royal Princess was the first member of the British royal family to compete, and Zara is the first royal Olympic medalist.

Middleton remains visible in Prince William’s polo games. In June, the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince George and Princess Charlotte were spotted at the Beaufort Polo Club field to support the Duke of Cambridge during the Maserati Royal Charity Polo Trophy match. Prince George and Princess Charlotte were seen playing around during the said outing.
