Dwayne "the Rock" Johnson is taking on the role of Greek god Hercules in the movie of the same name that is set for release next July. Over the weekend, he showed off how he is preparing to play the lead character, as well as photos from the set via Twitter.

The 41-year-old is no stranger to exercise and intense workouts as a former WWE champion and already has an imposing presence, but he is clearly dedicated to working out even harder to play the superhuman hero.

The Rock posted a photo of himself in the gym, working on his arm muscles, also showing off a large tribal tattoo that covers his left chest.

In addition, he had a picture snapped of him working on leg squats as he transforms himself into the son of Zeus.

The 6’4” star, who last starred in “G.I. Joe: Retaliation" and “Fast & Furious 6,” also showed another picture of his right bicep, which had fake scars, and was sporting a wig, while in his hair/makeup trailer. He posted the sly caption, “Hair/make up trailer-HERCULES. Asked how I got my shoulder slice scars. From a satisfied woman w/long [expletive] nails;).” He also showed off some of the props he will be using as Hercules.

In addition to weight training and working on his muscle mass, the Rock is also preparing for the role with a strict diet. He shared a picture of his refrigerator, which had numerous diet friendly meals, a shake, oats and fish oil. He revealed that he is eating seven meals per day and a shake for the role.

Hercules was last on the big screen in 1997 as an animated film. The upcoming film will also star Ian McShane, Rufus Sewell, Joseph Fiennes, Peter Mullan, John Hurt, Rebecca Ferguson, Ingrid Bolsø Berdal, Aksel Hennie, Reece Ritchie and Tobias Santelmann.
