Fans of actor Ross Lynch were left furious following the casting of Evan Peters in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming Netflix limited series “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story.”

The names of Lynch, Peters, and Dahmer became trending topics on Twitter Tuesday with fans divided over the announcement.

While Murphy is known for his projects on dark subjects, some fans felt the project was too soon after Lynch’s portrayal of the serial killer in the 2017 film “My Friend Dahmer,” which received favorable reviews.

“They need to stop making movies about serial killers when documentaries exist, but also I already know he’s not gonna outdo Ross Lynch,” one fan wrote.

Meanwhile, one person suggested that Murphy focus one of his other shows instead of working on a Dahmer series. “Didn’t they already make a movie about this guy with Ross Lynch???? Ryan Murphy go give ‘Pose’ an extra season instead of this,” the individual wrote.

However, some people admitted that they were looking forward to the new show and Peters’ potential to upstage Lynch.

“Evan Peters is playing Jeffrey Dahmer, and I CAN NOT COPE. Give it to me. Right now. Immediately,” one fan tweeted.

Meanwhile, one fan suggested that anyone in doubt of Peters’ ability should check out his work in “American Horror Story” Season 7.

“Why are people saying Evan being cast is a downgrade from Ross Lynch, have you ever seen ‘AHS’ cult?” the individual wrote.

While the film starring Lynch focused on Dahmer’s younger years, “Monster” is expected to focus on how Dahmer’s victims saw the serial killer and how his white privilege allowed him to evade authorities for years before finally being arrested, Variety reports.

Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun Brown, Richard Jenkins, and Colin Ford have also been cast to join the upcoming series.

Nash will take on the role of Glenda Cleveland, the killer’s Black neighbor who voiced her suspicions about him to the police but wasn’t taken seriously.

Miller and Jenkins will play Dahmer’s mother, Joyce, and father, Lionel, respectively. Ford will portray a character named Chazz while Brown will play an intended victim named Tracy, who was able to escape the serial killer.

“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” is expected to be a 10 episode limited series.
