The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is one of the eagerly anticipated devices of 2017. Unlike other major flagships, the Galaxy Note 8 does not pick up the baton from a predecessor — it is preceded by the disastrous Note 7 which, according to many reports, nearly brought the series to an end.

Samsung did have some saving grace in the recently released Samsung Galaxy S8, which had many high-end features such as an edge-to-edge display and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor. The Note 8’s success this year is very important to Samsung, since it will determine the future of the series.

Here are some of the expected features of the upcoming device:

Display: What would differentiate the Samsung Galaxy S8 would be, above everything else, its display. The device series is known for its large display, which has been its unique selling point over the years. With the Note 8, the device is expected to get even bigger — instead of the 5.7-inch display on previous handsets, the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to have a Samsung Galaxy S8 style infinity display, according to a leaked image, which surfaced on Weibo last Wednesday.

This leak confirms what was expected for long — the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will have the biggest surface area among any of the 2017 flagships. Its size does make it sort of a mini-tablet with smartphone like features, but if a large, usable display is what you want, the Samsung Galaxy Note might be worth considering.

Operating system: The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 will offer Android 7.1.1 — Nougat OS at launch and receive the Android O update later, according to reports.

Processor: The Samsung Galaxy S8 marked an improvement in processor technology with the 10nm processor technology, which employs more transistors than the 14nm technology based processors on devices such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the Apple iPhone 7.

The Galaxy Note 8 is expected to offer even more in terms of processing power than the S8, it is expected to come with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 836. The Snapdragon 836 is expected to be cloaked at a higher speed and therefore, offer better performance.

8GB RAM: The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to have a massive upgrade in terms of RAM. Unlike the Note 7, which had 4GB RAM, the device is expected to have 8GB RAM, which means that it might be able to run high-end games easily.

256GB memory: The device is expected to have a 256GB memory variant unlike the Samsung Galaxy Note 7, whose maximum variant is a 128GB one.

Dual camera: The Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is expected to come with a dual rear camera comprising of a 12-megapixel and a 13-megapixel camera sensor, somewhat like the iPhone 7 Plus, but in a vertical setup.

3,500 mAh battery: Since Samsung blamed the Note 7 crisis on the batteries, the company is not expected to take any chances with the Samsung Galaxy Note 8. It is expected to endow the device with a 3,500 mAh battery, same as the Samsung Galaxy Note instead of a 4,000 mAh one as rumored earlier.
