Samsung has been found to have a patent which shows some designs of a new augmented reality smartglasses. The patent shows technology which allows the smartglasses to fit even more AR display onto the glass. Samsung could also style the glasses lens in different ways while still being functional as a smartglasses.

As seen on the Samsung patent, the smartglasses would use four sets of different reflective glasses to display more AR features. The reflective glasses would allow the user to focus on both AR display and their surroundings.

Aside from its AR features on the lens, Samsung also has designs to make it different shapes. According to Patently Apple's report, the lens shapes that are confirmed are: “circular cylinder, an elliptical cylinder, a semicircular cylinder, a semi-elliptical cylinder, a distorted circular cylinder, and/or a distorted semicircular cylinder.” Most smartglasses, such as the Huawei Gentle Monster and Snap Spectacles, often offer their glasses with a uniform design. Samsung’s design could be more in this circular cylinder style.

As of now, Samsung has yet to release new smartglasses this 2020. However, the first Samsung Unpacked event this 2020 is set to be held on Feb. 11. Along with the other new products to be introduced, a smartwatch that has these features on them. Google is even planning a surprise in this event as it teased just recently. The surprise could be a smart glasses partnership with Google and Samsung.

For now, we’ll have to wait for Samsung and see if it’s going to use this design for smartglasses or simply keep it as a patent.
