Former NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams was the butt of a couple jokes at the “Saturday Night Live” 40th anniversary red carpet. “SNL” cast members and hosts from years past opened up about returning to the iconic show and didn’t hold back from taking a couple of digs at the network’s disgraced anchor.

Amy Poehler, who starred on the series (2001-08), joked being in the “Saturday Night Live” comedy trenches is “nothing like being in a war.” “Let me make that clear!” she laughed on the red carpet.

Jim Carrey, who hosted “Saturday Night Live” three times, surprised red carpet hosts Savannah Guthrie and Matt Lauer by sneaking in a question: “Where are you hiding Brian Williams?”

“Where is he?” Carrey continued while Guthrie simply smiled. “Well, look at the time,” Lauer responded, pointing to his watch. Unfortunately for Lauer, Carrey didn’t get the hint to end the topic.

“I want to say something in his defense, okay?” Carrey continued. “If the helicopter in front of me gets hit, I’m taking the story. Okay?”

Lauer finally managed to end the interview by thanking the comedian.

For those unfamiliar with the Brian Williams scandal, the NBC Nightly News anchor was suspended for six weeks after he admitted he lied about being in a helicopter that was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. The network has launched an internal investigation, and is looking into other stories that Williams potentially “exaggerated.”
