When Tanya Reynolds first walked onto the set of “Emma” she had no clue that she would be working alongside one of her “Sex Education” co-stars.

“It was purely coincidental, but lovely,” she said, according to Entertainment Tonight.

Reynolds, who plays the quirky, eccentric Lily on Netflix’s “Sex Education,” known for her strange lines and love of alien erotica, is taking on an entirely different role in the latest adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Emma.”

Directed by Autumn de Wilde, the film finds Reynolds playing the pretentious, snobby Mrs. Elton alongside her “Sex Education” co-star Connor Swindells. Swindells plays the role of farmer Robert Martin.

Reynolds revealed that Swindells is part of one of the most special scenes to her in “Emma.”

“Actually, my favorite moment of the film is of him and Mia [Harriet Smith], when she runs and kisses him toward the end and they run off together,” she said. “Oh, it’s so sweet.”

Reynolds and Swindells only had one day on set together for “Emma” according to Reynolds, and rarely have scenes together in “Sex Education.” Swindells plays Adam, the resident bully of “Sex Education” and the scenes he and Reynolds’ characters do have together are mostly in the company of many other actors as well. However, Season 2 did force the two to share a mutual friend on the show, Ola (Patricia Allison).

Reynolds had more than one surprise on the set of “Emma,” also coming to terms with her own personal revelation.

“I just had a moment where I was like, ‘When I was little and I knew I wanted to be an actor, this is what I imagined myself doing: being in a Jane Austen,’” she said. “My little 8-year-old self was jumping for joy.”

“Emma” was released Feb. 21 and pulled in $230,000 in New York and Los Angeles alone in its first few days, Deadline reported.
