Sunday brings the return of everyone’s favorite messed up family, the Gallaghers. “Shameless” Season 9 premieres, and it’ll pick up with some storylines from last season. Fans will want to remember where the Season 8 finale left off before tuning in to the Showtime comedy.

Fiona (Emmy Rossum) had to deal with the squatters, who were trying to sue her for even more than she’s worth. Fiona decided to take matters into her own hands. She used smoke bombs to drive them out and got them to agree to a deal for some quick cash.

She did this all with the help of Ford (Richard Flood), who might be the least toxic man Fiona has ever dated. They were still going strong at the end of “Shameless” Season 8, and the character will return in Season 9.

Lip (Jeremy Allen White) realized that he didn’t know if he was in love with Sierra (Ruby Modine). He has been drunk and high for so long that he doesn’t know what he wants. However, it’s clear that he can’t be in a relationship — at least not a romantic one. When he discovered Xan (Amirah Johnson) has been abandoned again, he decided to take her in.

Ian (Cameron Monaghan) took his Gay Jesus act to the next level. While he got plenty of support for blowing up the car of a parent trying to convert his gay kid to be straight, Ian also got an arrest warrant. Trevor (Elliot Fletcher) wanted him to turn himself in so the cops don’t start rounding up kids at the youth center. Ian, unfortunately, had other plans.

Ian and his followers unveiled a big “God is gay and he loves you banner,” and this quickly caught the attention of both the media and the police. The officers say they’re looking for Ian Gallagher, so all the kids start saying they’re Ian. All of them, including Ian, get handcuffed. Ian’s smile started to fade as he sits in the cop car and reality seems to sink in.

Frank (William H. Macy) decided to rob one of Liam’s (Christian Isaiah) classmates, despite them being quite generous with Liam. They took the youngest Gallagher on vacation to the Carribean, and Frank thought that was his time to make a move. He breaks in, but the security code Liam gave him doesn’t work. Frank has to run from the cops and hide in a Porta Potty (which had most definitely been used).

Carl (Ethan Cutkosky) wants to go back to military school, but his wife Kassidi (Sammi Hanratty) handcuffs him to his bed in an attempt to hold him hostage. A sleepwalking Liam frees him and Carl makes a run for it. He hops on the bus to military school, and Kassidi chases after him.

Debbie (Emma Kenney), who recently lost a few toes, is confronted by her baby daddy. Derek was sent away after she got pregnant, but now he wants joint custody. He is in the military, engaged and can afford to pay child support. While Debbie initially wanted him to go away, she started to reconsider the idea of Derek being involved in Frannie’s life.

Kev (Steve Howie), V (Shanola Hampton) and Svetlana (Isidora Goreshter) had a big scheme going that didn’t include the Gallaghers. Svetlana took the place of another former Russian prostitute who was set to marry a rich old man. Svetlana marries him instead, but unfortunately, there’s a prenup. Still, it looks like Svetlana will be living her new life offscreen while Kev and V try to adjust to life as an ordinary couple again in the new episodes.

In “Shameless” Season 9, Frank will get into more trouble when he spreads an STD around Liam’s PTA. Fiona looks to grow her business while contemplating what to do about Ian, who is still in jail. Debbie fights for equal pay at work while Lip still is taking care of a kid he doesn’t legally have any right to. Kassidi will follow Carl to military school, and Kev and V try to make the bar a more welcoming establishment.

“Shameless” Season 9 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. EDT on Showtime. The season will air seven episodes through October before going on hiatus until the new year.
