Carey Mulligan and Zoe Kazan are all set to star as investigative reporters who helped expose Harvey Weinstein in the upcoming movie "She Said." They will portray New York Times reporters Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey in the Universal Pictures movie.

"She Said" is based on the New York Times sexual harassment investigation that initiated the #MeToo movement. Kantor and Twohey wrote a book, titled "She Said: Breaking the Sexual Harassment Story That Helped Ignite a Movement," based on the incident in 2019.

The movie will revolve around Twohey and Kantor's work that uncovered the sexual harassment and assault allegations against Weinstein over the years. More than 100 women have accused the media mogul of sexual abuse. Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison in 2020.

Kantor and Twohey first revealed the details on Weinstein in 2017 and came up with more stories after more women opened up about their individual experiences.

Maria Schrader, who won an Emmy Award for Netflix's "Unorthodox," will direct the movie. Oscar-winning British screenwriter Rebecca Lenkiewicz will pen the screenplay of the movie and the production will start this summer.

Plan B Entertainment and Annapurna Pictures purchased "She Said" rights in 2018 under a co-production deal. Sue Naegle and Megan Ellison will serve as executive producers for Annapurna Pictures, while Brad Pitt, Dede Gardner and Jeremy Kleiner will serve as producers for Plan B Entertainment.

Mulligan was last seen in a thriller comedy, "Promising Young Woman," for which she received an Oscar nomination. The 36-year-old actress is currently filming "Spaceman" with Adam Sandler for Netflix and she will also feature in Bradley Cooper's "Maestro." The actress also hosted the highly-anticipated "Saturday Night Live" episode featuring Elon Musk last month.

Kazan was last seen in HBO Max's "The Plot Against America" in 2020. She will also feature in the mini-series, "Clickbait," which is created by Tony Ayres and Christian White. Kazan worked in the movie "The Kindness of Strangers" in 2019 and she gave voiceover in the animated movie "Cryptozoo," which is slated to release on Aug. 20.
