There are a lot of perks when it comes to marriage. One of the simplest is being able to snuggle up with your loved one for a good night's rest at the end of the day. Surprisingly, though, this is one perk Queen Elizabeth, and Prince Philip skip often skip out on. But don't think their marriage is in trouble because of this. It's actually quite normal.

"In England, the upper class always have had separate bedrooms," Philip's cousin, Lady Pamela Hicks told royal author Sally Bedell Smith, per Express.

"You don’t want to be bothered with snoring or someone flinging a leg around," she continued. "Then when you are feeling cosy you share your room sometimes. It is lovely to be able to choose."

Sleeping in separate beds isn't just an old British concept, though. Miami-based businessman Eric Borukhin explained to Vanity Fair that the act of sleeping separately is actually a luxury.

"It’s a matter of convenience if you can afford it," he told the magazine, according to the British publication. "If you can have that extra room, it’s basically a luxury."

Another surprising detail about the Queen and Philip is that they are actually related. While this isn't exactly a perk of marriage, according to Time, the two are distant cousins, third cousins to be exact. Elizabeth was 13-years-old when she fell for a 17-year-old Philip.

The most shocking detail about the royal couple's marriage has to be the rumors surrounding Prince Philip's fidelity -- or lack thereof. Author Gyles Brandreth uncovered some reports of his alleged affairs. The Baltimore Sun stated (via Vanity Fair) that the 98-year-old was “romantically involved with an unnamed woman whom he met on a regular basis in the West End apartment of a society photographer.”

Despite what some might call surprising or shocking, Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip have survived it all and will be married for a total of 72 years when their anniversary comes around on Nov. 20, 2019.
