  • "Sister Wives" stars Christine Brown and Kody Brown's split did not shock the people close to them

  • Christine was hurting because she really loved Kody, but he had not been around especially during the pandemic

"Sister Wives" star Christine Brown was eager to end her marriage to Kody Brown due to his commitment to Robyn Brown, a report has claimed.

Christine took to Instagram Tuesday and announced her split from Kody before the premiere of "Sister Wives" Season 16 saying "they have grown apart." While fans were shocked by the separation, sources close to the family were not surprised with their split because it was a long time coming.

"It’s no shock. She’s been in the process of leaving him for a while. The big reason why she split from him is because Kody has been completely devoted to Robyn [Brown] for the past five or six years. That hasn’t changed at all," an unnamed source told Us Weekly.

Also, when TLC dropped the trailer for the polygamous family's hit reality show, Christine already hinted that she was unhappy with her union with Kody. Also, she implied that she had no place in Kody's life because he seemed to already have a happy family with Robyn.

"Why would I wanna live on a property with a dysfunctional marriage while right over there he has a fully functional marriage. Who would ever want to live like that," Christine said in the teaser.

Kody, 52, was married to Meri Brown in 1990. He married his second wife, Janelle Brown, in January 1993, and his third wife, Christine, in 1994, in a spiritual ceremony. Kody and his three sister wives welcomed Robyn in May 2010.

Kody's marriage to Meri was legally binding while his marriages to the other three were done spiritually. However, he decided to legally adopt Robyn's three children, so he divorced Meri and married Robyn. Kody and Meri remained in a spiritual union.

According to an insider, Kody's world "completely stopped" when Robyn entered the picture. He was a devoted polygamous, so he kept going with their arrangement. For him, it's not necessary if he loves his wife, but what's important is who else is as devoted as him.

Meanwhile, Kody and Christine did not get along well. Even if it was Christine who decided to end their marriage, she was reportedly hurting, too.

"[Christine’s] really hurting. She really loved Kody. She gave him her all in hopes that he would love her," the tipster added. "Kody has not been around at all. He used COVID-19 as a big excuse to not be around family. It’s been his ticket to freedom essentially. This destroyed Christine because she really tried to give her all to the marriage."

Kody already responded to Christine's announcement on Instagram. He assured fans that even if they would be living separately, they will remain committed as parents.

"Sister Wives" Season 16 premieres on Nov. 21 at 10:00 p.m. ET on TLC.
