“Sleepy Hollow” is back! After several months, the Fox series returns with a controversial Season 4 premiere. The show has rebooted and changed its cast in the wake of Abbie Mills’ (Nicole Beharie) death. But before watching the new season, let’s recap what happened in the Season 3 finale.

Last season, Abbie and her partner Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison) successfully stopped The Hidden One (Peter Mensah) and Pandora (Shannyn Sossamon) from taking over the world. However, stopping the all-powerful God and his lover meant that one of the witnesses had to sacrifice their life. In the end, Abbie gave her life to save Sleepy Hollow.

Fortunately, the season finale gave hope to Ichabod and Abbie’s sister Jenny (Lyndie Greenwood) to continue fighting evil supernatural creatures. A group of men dressed in black suits whisked the professor away while he stood near Abbie’s grave. It was discovered that George Washington created a secret supernatural-fighting organization in the eighteenth century. This covert organization operates inside the government.

Ichabod and Jenny will now be a part of this organization. However, when “Sleepy Hollow” returns, the duo will still be mourning the loss of Abbie and remembering the lieutenant fondly.

So, what will happen in the Season 4 premiere? Episode 1 will pick up with Ichabod and Jenny searching for the next witness in Washington, D.C. Crane will soon find a new partner in Secret Service Agent Diana Thomas (Janina Gavankar) and a new supernatural-fighting team that consists of self-taught engineer Alex Norwood (Rachel Melvin) and cataloguer of supernatural phenomena, Jake Wells (Jerry MacKinnon).

However, Ichabod will take some time to convince Diana that she is the next witness. Moreover, a new villain and a slew of new monsters will be introduced in the upcoming season.

Catch the “Sleepy Hollow” Season 4 premiere on Friday, Jan. 6 at 9 p.m. EST on Fox.
