“Saturday Night Live” has not aired a new episode for the past two weeks, but that changes on March 2. “SNL” is new tonight.

Season 44, episode 14 will feature John Mulaney hosting for the second time, with his first being last spring. Mulaney is no stranger to “SNL,” though. He also worked as a writer on “SNL” from 2003 to 2013.

In a new promo video for Saturday’s episode, he claims he auditioned to be a cast member no less than 44 times. He started auditioning back in 1975, and he comes back every year. Other cast members, like Cecily Strong and Kenan Thompson, have even tried to help him. “I tried to help him a couple times with his audition, but he got very defensive,” Strong says.

Mulaney recalls that he was told by Lorne Michaels to give it up. “We don’t need whatever it is you are,” the executive producer said.

Thomas Rhett is set to perform. It’ll be his first time visiting “SNL,” and he’ll be playing new music. “Look What God Gave Her” is the country singer’s new single, released Friday. He also revealed on social media that he’ll play “brand new songs” during the show, hinting that his second song will also be from the new record.

The performance will give Rhett fans a taste of what to expect when he tours the U.S. this summer. The Very Hot Summer Tour kicks off in May in Alabama.

“SNL” airs on NBC on Saturday live coast-to-coast at 11:30 p.m. EST, 10:30 p.m. CST, 9:30 p.m. MST and 8:30 p.m. PST.
