Model Sofia Richie expressed her support for Lori Loughlin’s daughter Olivia Jade Giannulli, after she broke her silence on her mom and dad’s role in the college admission scam. However, the daughter of singer Lionel Richie received heat for it.
After her explosive interview on “Red Table Talk,” when she addressed the scandal her parents embroiled themselves in, Olivia has her model friend to rely on. Richie made sure that she was there to support the YouTuber when she commented on her recent post.
“Yes, girl!! Can’t wait for what’s ahead,” Richie wrote on Giannulli's promotion post.
However, Richie received flak for supporting Giannulli, with one person commenting, “white privilege supporting white privilege.” The model quickly responded to quash the hatred.
“we are all human, who make human mistakes. Life is too short to wish negativity on anyone. Sending you love," Richie wrote.
Besides Richie, Giannulli also got support from Natasha Bure, the daughter of Candace Cameron Bure, who worked with Loughlin in the sitcoms “Full House” and “Fuller House.” The 22-year-old simply commented with a heart emoji on her post.
The show of support came after Olivia’s appearance on “Red Table Talk,” a web television talk show, went live, which was the first time that she has talked about the college admission scandal. Loughlin and husband Mossimo Giannulli are currently serving their two-month and five-month sentences, respectively.
Giannulli admitted that she wasn’t trying to “victimize” herself and clarified that she doesn’t want pity because she doesn’t “deserve” it. She also acknowledged that they “messed up” and only wanted a second chance.
The YouTuber described the experience as “eye-opening” and said it has “led me to have a completely different outlook on a lot of situations.” Giannulli also revealed that her parents apologized to her and her sister, Isabella.
“When it was happening it didn't feel wrong. I was in my own little bubble, focusing on my comfortable world, that I never had to look outside of that bubble," the influencer said of privilege. "A lot of kids in that bubble, their parents were donating to schools and doing stuff with so many advantages."
"I didn't realize at the time that that was privilege. I understand why people are angry and I understand why people say hurtful things, and I would too if I wasn't in my boat," Giannulli said.
