Sofia Vergara has spoken up in defense of Ellen DeGeneres after critics slammed the talk show host for making fun of the actress' accent during past interviews.

DeGeneres was once again in hot water recently after a clip of Vergara's appearances on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" resurfaced, showing the host poking fun at the Colombian star's English-speaking skills multiple times. Responding to the criticism toward DeGeneres on Friday, Vergara cleared the air and stressed that it was simply an inside joke between them.

"Two comedians having fun with each other to entertain. I was never a victim guys, I was always in on the joke," she wrote on Twitter.

Following her post, Vergara received support on Twitter for clarifying the misunderstanding and coming to DeGeneres' defense.

"Thank you for speaking up for ellen @SofiaVergara," one netizen commented.

"I love you Sofia thank you for speaking out and standing by Ellen!" another wrote.

Others are eager to see Vergara back on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" when it returns for a new season, with several saying that the actress was their favorite guest.

"Very kind of you to stand up for a friend!! Hope to see you in the show in season 18!!" a Twitter user wrote.

"You’re my # 1 favorite guest on @TheEllenShow, you are clearly friends and the way you two play off of each other is hilarious... how can anyone ever think she was being racist to you, except the over sensitive Karen’s that are triggered by anything in the top news stories!" another netizen wrote.

"Most Favourite person on the show for Ellen as well as all of u," another user commented.

This isn't the first time that a newly-resurfaced clip or tweet from DeGeneres has gone viral and sparked controversy in the past several months.

Earlier this week, the host's 2009 tweet about making a staffer cry was dug up amid the allegations against DeGeneres of poor treatment of staff and rude behavior on set. However, this was cleared up soon after as the Twitter post was actually about DeGeneres' pleasant surprise to her staff that made the latter cry tears of joy.
