“Speechless” fans only have to wait two more months for the show’s Season 2 premiere.

ABC announced on Monday that Season 2, episode 1 of the Scott Silver-created series — which stars Minnie Driver, John Ross Bowie, Cedric Yarbrough, Mason Cook, Micah Fowler and Kyla Kenedy — will air on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 8:30 p.m. EST.

Plot details about Season 2 are being kept under wraps, but Driver told the Los Angeles Times last April that viewers might be learning more about her character, Maya, outside of her relationship with JJ (Fowler). “Going forward there will have to be,” Driver told the news outlet when asked if there’s going to be storylines about Maya outside of her relationship with her eldest son.

“We haven’t really explored who Maya’s family is. We’ve known some of Jimmy’s (Bowie) family. I think there’s a lot to be mined out of that [like] what she was on the path to do before she found herself pregnant and then gave birth to child who has a severe disability. Do we return to some of that? Do we try to find that as JJ becoming more independent? Does Maya get her previous life? I don’t know. [But] I’m imagining, yes [because] these are all conversations we had and continue to have,” she explained.

Meanwhile, Bowie is looking forward to the show telling more about Maya and Jimmy’s backstory. “I’ll go on record right now. I’d love to do a flashback episode where they dye my hair black again and we figure out like what the origin story of all these people are,” Bowie told AfterBuzz TV last May. “I’m in it for that. I’m here for that. I’m all about a flashback episode. And we have a ton of ‘Friends’ writers on the show, and ‘Friends’ did great, great flashback episodes.”

“There are still tons of stuff that we know just in terms of JJ’s diagnosis and all sorts of backstory that we still have to get to,” Bowie continued. “We’ve sort of touched on, ‘How these two people [Maya and Jimmy] ended up together?’ We’ve just gently brushed up against that but we don’t know what she’s doing in Orange Country. What this beautiful British woman with a vaguely posh accent is doing in Newport Beach. I don’t know how that happened but we’ll get there.”

Although Bowie is excited to see the characters’ backstory on the show, he admitted that he actually likes the fact that producers of the show weren’t in a huge rush in terms of the exposition. “They’re like, ‘Listen viewers, when you need to find out, we will let you know,’” the actor said. “I love the fact that they are very patient with the exposition. I think that it’s something that the show does pretty well. It gives you just enough information here and there.”
