“Star Wars: Episode 9” is expected to not only conclude the Skywalker family saga, but also set up the future films from the franchise. The new trilogy so far has been about passing the torch to the next generation, and the same can be expected from Lando Calrissian (Billy Dee Williams).

The following article contains spoilers of “Star Wars: Episode 9.”

According to Screen Rant, a new rumor about the upcoming film suggested that newcomer Naomi Ackie is actually playing the role of Lando’s daughter. The name of the character has been revealed to be Veranada (Vera) Calrissian.

The people who shared this information online claimed that they worked as extras on the film at Pinewood Studios. The extras apparently were “guerrilla militia in a secret type of bunker on the planet of Batuu.”

While the leak in itself can’t be substantiated, there is evidence to suggest that the claim may actually be true. The “Star Wars” tie-in novel “Last Shot” revealed that Lando settled down on Bespin and focused on his business after the fall of the Empire. There he met his old flame Kasha Bateen, who is a Twi’lek freedom fighter.

In the book, Lando decided to start a family. While the book leaves the question about children open for “Star Wars: Episode 9” to explore, the fact that the plot was set at the end of “Return of the Jedi” suggests that his child will be all grown up by the time “Star Wars: Episode 9” events unfold.

Like the other veteran characters before him, Lando’s role in the upcoming film will be limited. According to a previous report by Making Star Wars, William’s character will be like Maz Kanata (Lupita Nyong’o). His role will be limited to pointing the heroes in the right direction. It remains to be seen how significant his daughter will be in the film, if Ackie is indeed playing the role of Lando’s daughter.

One theory that some of the fans apparently have is that Ackie is playing a Jedi. In a recent interview with ODE on YouTube, the actress said that she is constantly asked if she is playing a Jedi in the film. Ackie joked that she would be strangled by the ghost of Yoda if she reveals any spoilers.

“Star Wars: Episode 9” is being directed by JJ Abrams. Filming is nearly complete, and the film is set to be released on Dec. 20.
