“Star Wars: Episode 9” will set the stage for what the future of the franchise will be like. The Marvel comics are already doing that, and a most recent release revealed a secret mentor to Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) that the fans don’t know about.

In the comic “Luke & Co,” it is revealed that Obi-Wan wasn’t the only teacher the young man had when he was training to be a Jedi, CBR reported. Even before the events in “The Empire Strikes Back,” a time when the Rebels were busy undermining the influence of the Emperor (Ian McDiarmid), there were unknown heroes in the galaxy who could use the Force.

During one of his missions in the comics, Luke met a young woman who went by the name Warba Calip. She could use the Force but was neither a Jedi nor a Sith. She was the one who taught Skywalker that the Force can be used by everyone, a belief that the Jedi master echoed in “The Last Jedi.”

With the comic books also emphasizing the point that even ordinary people can use the Force, this is something that is expected to be showcased in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” In the future, the franchise appears to be moving beyond the dichotomy of the Jedi and the Sith.

How exactly will this idea play out in the upcoming film? The franchise has already established Rey (Daisy Ridley) as someone who is a nobody. According to a theory by Screen Rant, this idea will be expanded in the film. This doesn’t mean that Rey is not an important person or that her background is not important. Rather, the message of the film could continue to be that anyone can be a hero no matter who his or her parents are.

There should be some surprises in “Star Wars: Episode 9.” Domhnall Gleeson, who will be reprising his role as General Hux, called the script a page-turner in an interview with Collider, but he also teased that the story isn’t what he had previously thought it would be.
