  • Celebrities have joined hands in donating to the Minnesota Freedom Fund to help the arrested protesters

  • Many people have been taken into custody for joining the protests following George Floyd’s death

The ongoing protests in various parts of the U.S. have prompted the authorities to take people into custody to clear the streets. Some of the videos circulating on social media platforms like Twitter and Instagram have encouraged many celebrities to help bail out the protestors who were captured despite protesting peacefully.

Chrissy Teigen led the way with a donation of $200,000 to bail out the protestors. The 34-year-old model decided to offer financial support after President Donald Trump announced “MAGA night” at the White House.

Teigen, who never shies away from speaking on important matters, took to Twitter and shared that she is “committed” to donating $100,000 for freeing the protestors who were taken into police custody across the country.

As soon as she tweeted about donating money, one netizen called the protestors “criminals” and also labeled them “rioters.” The user’s comments forced Teigen to raise the amount and later she announced that she would be donating $200,000 to free the protestors.

Her tweet turned out to be pretty massive and got a huge response from other notable personalities like Steve Carell, Don Cheadle, Ben Schwartz, Seth Rogen, and many more.

Rogen started a chain of donations to the Minnesota Freedom Fund and prompted Carell, Cheadle, and Schwartz to match their donations. The Safdie Brothers, who directed last year’s hit movie “Uncut Gems,” also donated money to help free the protestors.

On the other hand, musicians like Lil Nas X, Harry Styles, and Kehlani also came out in support of Teigen and gave financial assistance. Styles tweeted that he is donating to help “post bail” for arrested organizers and also urged the people to educate themselves on what is going on in the nation.

Other celebrities who also donated for the cause include Jameela Jamil, Nick Kroll, Pete Holmes, and many more.

The news of donations comes days after George Floyd’s death on May 25. Floyd lost his life after a police officer kept his knee on his neck for several minutes, despite Floyd saying that he could not breathe. As of late, the police officer has been arrested and charged with third-degree murder.

Meanwhile, three other police officers who were also present at the scene have been fired from their respective positions.
