“Suicide Squad” contained plenty of easter eggs connecting it to the larger DCEU, such as appearances from superheroes Batman and Flash. Aside from that, “Suicide Squad” presented itself largely as a one-off adventure through the perspective of the villains. Though, it has now been revealed that there is one major element that was taken out that would have connected it directly to the “Justice League.”

Not only that, it was a pretty large plot point and it would have been rather essential to the story of the superhero ensemble film to follow, director David Ayer revealed on Twitter.

Mother Boxes are essentially the Infinity Stones of the DC universe, in that they were scattered throughout the movies and eventually led up to a final showdown. They were first mentioned in “Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice,” where Wonder Woman (Gal Gadot) first viewed Lex Luthor’s (Jesse Eisenberg) files on metahumans and Mother Boxes. It was also discovered that these Mother Boxes were behind the creation of Cyborg (Ray Fisher).

Ayer's post was in response to one Twitter user's comment about the villain Enchantress (Cara Delevigne) and her goal to turn Midway City’s residence into hordes of many-eyed ghouls by way of a special device to act as a doomsday device.

According to Ayer, this device was a replacement of the original plan, the inclusion of one the Mother Boxes in “Justice League.” He stated that he wanted a “Boom Tube” to be visible in the film, suggesting that Enchantress was under control of one of the Mother Boxes all along, as reported by Screen Rant.

This previous inclusion of a Mother Box suggests that the events in the “Justice League,” similar to Marvel’s now titled “Infinity Saga,” were being planned all along.
