  • Jason Chaffetz says if Biden's the Democrat nominee, “Donald Trump is going to kick his butt”

Jason Chaffetz, a former Republican congressman, claims president Donald Trump will kick former vice president Joe Biden's butt in November.

Chaffetz represented Utah's 3rd congressional district from 2009 until his retirement in 2017. He chaired the Committee on Oversight and Government Reform from 2015 to 2017 that refused to probe allegations of Russian support of Trump's presidential campaign. He began working as a contributor for Fox News in July 2017.

Speaking on Fox's “Outnumbered Overtime” Wednesday, Chaffetz said if Democrats choose Biden as their presidential nominee, then “hallelujah because Donald Trump is going to kick his butt.”

Chaffetz made his pro-Trump comments after Biden won big at the Democrat's Super Tuesday primaries. Biden took 10 of the 14 states at stake, deflating the momentum of Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-VT, and installing himself as the favorite to win the nomination.

Three of Biden's former competitors have dropped out the race and endorsed him: Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-MN; former mayor Pete Buttigieg; and billionaire and former New York City mayor Mike Bloomberg. Only Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-MA, stands in the way of the nomination contest turning into a Biden-Sanders race. Warren is expected to announce her withdrawal this week. It's unclear who she'll endorse.

Biden, who began his campaign for the nomination in 2019 as frontrunner, was plagued by a series of gaffes and missteps that eventually led to humiliating defeats at the first three nominating contests in Iowa, New Hampshire and Nevada.

Obama's former VP turned it around with a massive win in South Carolina that helped carry him to victory on Super Tuesday. Along the way, Biden again admitted his stuttering continues to plague him. Trump has repeatedly blasted Biden for this speech disorder. Chafftetz seems to allude to this in his criticism of Biden on Fox.

“In terms of messaging, you can't have somebody who fumbles the ball more than Joe Biden so if that’s the messenger, it’s a messenger from the past, it's not vibrant, it's not exciting, it's not the future and it is embarrassing to watch on a daily basis,” according to Chaffetz.

The Trump yes-man said the president "is stronger politically than he's ever been before. If he plays his A-game, I think he will dominate and win by a bigger margin than he beat Hillary Clinton (by)." He believes Trump will get "nearly 100%" of Republican votes this coming election.

Chaffetz also said Biden won on Super Tuesday not due to his own merits. He claims Biden's huge victory came about “in part because Pete Buttigieg and Amy Klobuchar took percentage points and basically put them in the Biden camp.”

“I don't feel like there’s a surge of pro-Biden all around the country. What I see now is a Democratic Party that still struggles to identify who they are. Half of it is not even a registered Democrat, they’re socialists and that’s the Bernie Sanders camp and then you got Joe Biden, who obviously had a good night last night.”
