Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, on Wednesday retweeted a video that mocked him on "The Daily Show with Trevor Noah," prompting additional jabs at the former presidential candidate.

In a video that aired on the Comedy Central program and was posted on Twitter, Noah touched on the 2020 census and how immigration is significantly down and birth rates have been falling over the last decade. Noah also pointed out how the population has grown at the slowest rate since the 1930s.

"Basically, immigration is down and the birth rate is falling...primarily due to this photo,” Noah shared.

The video then shows the much-circulated and mocked picture of a bearded Cruz dressed in green in his March visit to the Texas-Mexico border. The joke from Noah comes at about the 2:11 mark of the over two-and-a-half minute clip.

In his retweet, Cruz missed the point of "The Daily Show" clip, posting false comments that he attributed to Noah and that were unrelated to the census. He also did not acknowledge the joke directed at him.

The video received over 560 retweets and 4,200 likes as of Wednesday at 2 p.m, ET, while Cruz’s retweet received about 1,900 retweets and 8,700 likes.

Cruz was mocked on Twitter for his response.

Noah would later respond to Cruz's retweet.

Cruz, who unsuccessfully ran for president in 2016, responded back. The response also received a comment from Noah, which alluded to Cruz's positive relationship with Donald Trump, who had spoken disparagingly of Cruz's wife during the 2016 Republican primaries.
