A teen girl in India sent cops on a frantic search after complaining that she was abducted and gang-raped by two strangers. However, after a detailed investigation, the officials found out that the story was made up by the teenager in a bid to marry her boyfriend.

The unidentified 19-year-old girl, from the central Indian city of Nagpur, lodged a complaint Monday claiming that two unidentified men raped her at an isolated location after kidnapping her on a white-colored van.

The girl alleged she was walking to her music lessons when the kidnappers forcibly pushed her into the vehicle and covered her face with a cloth while asking her for directions. The police soon registered a case and started a search for the two "suspects," local daily Deccan Herald reported.

After reviewing footage from 250 CCTVs across the city and deploying at least 1,000 police personnel to track down the accused, the investigators concluded that the teen had concocted the story, said Amitesh Kumar, a senior investigating officer.

A medical examination also confirmed the girl was not sexually assaulted. The teenager eventually admitted to the cops that she made up the story to marry her boyfriend, India Today reported.

The girl's family had opposed her decision to marry her boyfriend. She told the officers that she decided to make up the story believing that her family would change their mind if she claimed she was abducted and gang-raped by two strangers.

In September, a man in India who was sent to jail on charges of rape was acquitted after his sister admitted she had made a false criminal complaint against him. The 24-year-old unidentified man spent more than two years in jail before the court freed him of all charges. The girl testified in court that she accused her brother of rape because he had scolded her for going out with her boyfriend. The girl also admitted that she did not undergo a medical examination after filing the criminal complaint to prove she was sexually assaulted.
