Tesla's Elon Musk Donated One Million Trees After Being Persuaded By This Tweet

Earlier this week, Tesla founder Elon Musk heard about a YouTuber's tree-planting campaign. Jimmy Donaldson, known as "MrBeast," started the initiative that he called #TeamTrees. After calling the effort "cool," the SpaceX entrepreneur stated that he would donate "1M trees."

The campaign began on Oct. 25 in an attempt to plant 20 million trees around the globe by Jan. 1, 2020, as a way to tackle climate change. After asking for more specifics, such as the types of trees and where they were set to be planted, the founder tweeted the confirmation that he was ready to take part in the campaign after receiving satisfactory answers. "OK, sounds legit, will donate 1M trees," he said, which can be seen below.

The businessman then changed his Twitter display name to "Treelon" and appropriately changed his profile picture to a photo of a forest.

However, Musk lost his top spot on Wednesday afternoon when Shopify CEO Tobias Lütke offered a donation of 1,000,001 trees, which prompted the inventor to tweet "Congrats!" to the initiative's founder.

This certainly would not mark the first time Musk has decided to do unexpected things. In college, he paid his rent in a "very unconventional way" and he also found inspiration for one of his inventions in a very unique place.

Those who are interested in making a donation themselves can also do so at the #TeamTrees site. Each dollar that is given to the effort will result in one tree being planted. At the time of publication, over eight million trees have been planted.
