titanic 2
A new “Titanic” movie, “Titanic II,” came out in 2010. Asylum

It was on this day 20 years ago that movie-watchers first asked themselves, and argued with others, “Was there really not enough room for two people?” Yes, today is the 20th anniversary of the classic film “Titanic.”

The much-loved Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet movie has satisfied, and confused, viewers for years now and it will always be known as one of the greats. But, have you ever wondered what happened after the events of the movie, say 100 years later?

That’s where “Titanic II” comes in. The 2010 low-budget flick, with Shane Van Dyke, Marie Westbrook, Bruce Davison and Brooke Burns, follows a new luxury cruise ship, the Titanic 2, as it makes its journey in honor of the 100th anniversary of original Titanic’s voyage. As it had been 100 years since the first ship went down, they thought they’d learned everything and made the new ship unbreakable, but, alas, things seem to head in the same direction as the first time around.

A tsunami forces an iceberg into the path of the Titanic 2, forcing the ship’s passengers and crew to come together to try to avoid the same awful fate of the first Titanic.

The film aired on SyFy, but if you didn’t get a chance to watch, or simply had never even heard of it, then it’s a good thing it was also released on DVD to purchase. If streaming is more your thing, it is available on Amazon if you buy a CONtv subscription for $4.99 per month, or start a seven-day free trial. Similarly, it is available directly on the CONtv streaming site, which is a platform created for Comic Con fans.

Once you’ve finished “Titanic II” but haven’t yet had your fill of the story of the sinking ship, then keep sitting on that couch and try one of these other movies or mini-series about the “Titanic.”

There’s 1953’s “Titanic,” the 1979 TV movie “S.O.S Titanic,” 1980’s “Raise the Titanic,” the 2000 animated flick “Titanic: The Legend Goes On,” as well as the 1996 mini-series “Titanic” with Peter Gallagher and Catherine Zeta-Jones and the two 2012 mini-series “Titanic” and “Titanic: Blood and Steel.”

Lots of Titanic content is the perfect way to celebrate the 1997 film’s 20th anniversary.
