True Detective
Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell) might face a conflict of interest in episode 2 of "True Detective" Season 2. HBO

The Season 2 premiere of “True Detective” introduced fans to three unique, if depressingly dark, characters in Detective Ray Velcoro (Colin Farrell), Detective Ani Bezzerides (Rachel McAdams), and Highway Patrolman Paul Woodrugh (Taylor Kitsch). By the end of the first episode, the HBO mystery series had brought the trio together to investigate the gruesome murder of a city planner in Los Angeles. What will happen next in episode 2, “Night Finds You?”

According to the synopsis for the new episode, the autopsy of city planner Ben Caspere will reveal some peculiar details about the murder to Velcoro and Bezzerides, leaving the detectives wondering if Caspere’s death has something to do with his penchant for prostitutes – fans will remember that in the premiere, Bezzerides led a raid on the cyber-cam porn company where her sister worked, believing it was a prostitution ring. Meanwhile, crime boss Frank Semyon (Vince Vaughn) has his own stake in the investigation after trusting Caspere with much of the money for his planned high speed rail development project.

Plus, the promo reveals that Semyon might not have the patience to wait for the authorities to solve the crime. With the high speed rail deal in jeopardy, the trying-to-go-legitimate businessman wants his money back now! Will he use Velcoro to find the missing cash? Viewers learned in the premiere that Velcoro was indebted to Semyon and worked under the table for the mafia man. The conflict of interest could cause problems between Velcoro and his law enforcement colleagues. In the teaser, Bezzerides asks Velcoro, “How compromised are you?”
