  • Ubisoft has not yet confirmed if it is indeed working on a new "Splinter Cell" game

French video game company Ubisoft is reportedly working on a new "Splinter Cell" game and aside from earlier claims that the stealth shooter title is in its early stage of development, a new set of details revealed what fans can expect from the upcoming series installment.

Industry insider and video game journalist Tom Henderson, known for his insider information about "Call of Duty: Vanguard" and "Battlefield 2042," shared on Twitter new details about the supposed new "Splinter Cell" game. "Ubisoft's Splinter Cell game that is in early development is currently scoped as a... You guessed it... Open World of sorts," Henderson said.

The insider also cited a few anonymous quotes, probably from sources close to the said project. One quote describes the stealth game as "a more stealthy version of Assassin's Creed," while another said it is "similar to how Halo Infinite has done its Open World."

The campaign of "Halo Infinite" offers gamers the freedom of exploration in completing missions and side quests. Its gameplay loop is certainly one that could work well for Ubisoft's stealth shooter title.

Unfortunately, Ubisoft has not yet said anything about the next "Splinter Cell" game. However, its existence has been confirmed by several insiders and news outlets.

There are claims that Ubisoft already playtested a "Splinter Cell" type of game in the early part of 2021. It is believed that the game features elements similar to "Hitman," which interestingly aligns with what Henderson is saying.

Sam Fisher, the main protagonist of the "Splinter Cell" series, has appeared via cameos in several spin-off games over the years. The last main entry in the series was released in 2013 titled "Splinter Cell: Blacklist."

While the game took the series to a whole new level offering heavy action, it was also controversial because of several issues. At this point, it is not yet known if Henderson's information about the next "Splinter Cell" game is accurate.

In the absence of official information from Ubisoft, fans are advised to temper their expectations and take these details as highly speculative at the moment. It was earlier confirmed that a VR game set in the "Splinter Cell" universe that might include a multiplayer campaign is in the works.
