“Saturday Night Live” kicked the night off by mocking Sen. Ted Cruz’s sunny trip to Mexico while millions of residents in his home state of Texas were left without power during a brutal winter storm.

The episode was hosted by actor Regé-Jean Page and featured musical guest Bad Bunny.

Along with Cruz’s controversial trip, the sketch-comedy show also poked fun at the Netflix series “Bridgerton” and found some humor in some of the recent scandalous stories.

Here are some of the notable sketches from “SNL” Season 46 episode 13.

Cold Open

The opening sketch shined a light on the “Framing Britney Spears” documentary by giving the pop star, played by Chloe Feinman, her own talk show, “Oops, You Did it Again.”

The show allowed its guests the opportunity to issue public apologies. Cruz, who was portrayed by Aidy Bryant, was up first wearing cornrows and carrying a piña colada. The Texas senator was under fire last week after flying with his family to Cancun and attempting to blame the trip on his young daughters.

“I’m in a little bit of hot water, which is something I’m told people in Texas don’t have,” Bryant quipped.

Fineman later welcomed New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, played by Pete Davidson, who apologized for “the nursing home stuff.” He also insulted Mayor Bill de Blasio, who previously stated the governor should be investigated.

“The Mandalorian” actor Gina Carano, portrayed by Cecily Strong, also made an appearance after she was fired from the Disney+ show following her controversial comments that "conservatives have it as bad as people living in Nazi Germany."

“Bridgerton”

Page channeled his inner Duke of Hastings to parody his hit series, which is known for its steamy intimacy scenes. However, this time around, the intimacy coordinator was out sick and replaced by clueless temps Davidson and Mikey Day. The guys were convinced Page and Fineman, who portrayed his co-star Phoebe Dynevor, were brother and sister on the series.

The two admitted they had no concept of what the series was about since “it seemed like a girl show” so they opted out of getting familiar with the script. However, they did come prepared with some questionable modesty garments and green screen pasties.

Weekend Update

Co-anchors Michael Che and Colin Jost touched on a number of current events that transpired over the last week on the fictional news program. Cruz was once again the topic of conversation when Jost slammed the Congressman for blaming his daughters for his trip to Mexico and referenced a leaked text from Heidi Cruz planning the trip.

“If you think it’s bad he’s throwing his daughters under the bus, Cruz would like you to know that statement was his wife’s idea,” Jost said.

Meanwhile, Che took some heat after reporting on the COVID-19 vaccine distribution in Israel. The co-anchor noted that half the people in the country had received the vaccination and joked, “I’m going to guess it’s the Jewish half.”

The segment also mocked the Mars rover kanding and restrictions for the Christian holy day Ash Wednesday.

Nick Jonas will be the host and musical guest on the next episode of “Saturday Night Live.”
