At least four people were injured in an apparent explosion in Ware, Massachusetts, on Tuesday evening.

The fire happened in a driveway on Dunham Avenue around 9 p.m. EDT Tuesday. Though initial reports suggested three people were hurt, Fire Chief Thomas Coulombe confirmed that another person suffered minor injuries and was treated at Baystate Mary Lane Outpatient Center.

While two injured were airlifted to a Boston hospital, another was transported by ground, NBC/CW+-affiliated television station WWLP reported.

Jennifer Mieth, a spokeswoman of the State Fire Marshal's Office, confirmed the incident and said investigators were on their way to the scene. She added that the incident was similar to the grill explosion that happened in West Springfield on Tuesday morning in which one person was engulfed in flames after pouring ignitable liquid onto a fire pit.

The exact cause of fire was, however, not known and investigation was ongoing.

This is a developing story.
