KEY POINTS

  • Beyoncé and Jay-Z attended the 2022 Wearable Art Gala with their 10-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy
  • The event was hosted by Blue Ivy's grandmother Tina Knowles and actress Keke Palmer
  • Blue Ivy was outbid by Mielle Organics founder Monique Rodriguez and her husband Melvin

Beyoncé's daughter, Blue Ivy, shocked attendees of the 2022 Wearable Art Gala over the weekend after bidding over $80,000 on a pair of diamond earrings.

The 10-year-old attended the event, which was hosted by her grandmother Tina Knowles, in Los Angeles Saturday night with her parents Beyoncé and Jay-Z, People reported.

In a video from the event shared by Pop Crave via Twitter, actress and co-host Keke Palmer was calling for higher bidders for a pair of Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings when Blue Ivy stood up to bid over $80,000. The pre-teen, who wore a royal blue outfit and a pair of black sunglasses, excitedly waved her auction paddle.

Knowles was wearing the lavish earrings that night. During the presentation for the jewelry, it was revealed that the pair was previously owned by her 41-year-old superstar daughter.

Blue Ivy did not take home the earrings in the end. She lost to Mielle Organics founder Monique Rodriguez and her husband Melvin, who bid $105,000 on them.

The video, which has garnered 1.5 million views and 53,000 likes as of writing, sparked jokes and memes on social media.

"Tina was like, 'Do [your] parents know you out here spending [their] money? If you don't sit down,'" one user joked.

Another commented, "She spent my tuition money like it was nothing."

"She [is] stressing her grandma out," a third user said.

This wasn't the first time Blue Ivy attempted to bid thousands of dollars on items at the Wearable Art Gala, a benefit event for W.A.C.O. (Where Art Can Occur) Theater Center, which provides teens with mentorship programs and encourages individuals to use self-expression through theatre and art, according to Vanity Fair.

In 2018, Blue Ivy, who was 6 at the time, attended the same event with her parents and bid $17,000 on an acrylic painting of Sidney Poitier, Vanity Fair reported.

However, despite making another bid of $19,000, she was outbid by Tyler Perry who took the portrait home for $20,000, according to the magazine.

But Blue Ivy did not go home empty-handed as the outlet revealed that she successfully bid on a piece created by artist Samuel Levi Jones for $10,000.

When the 53-year-old creator and performer of the Madea character appeared on "Jimmy Kimmel Live" in 2018, he opened up about his bidding war experience with Blue Ivy.

"There was this art that came out for the auction. It's this beautiful painting of Sidney Poitier, [and] I'm like, 'I've got to have that,'" Perry shared. "Then somebody on the aisle over there is bidding too. It's Blue Ivy, Beyoncé and Jay-Z's daughter."

He continued, "I'm like, 'I'm going to teach you a lesson today,' and she keeps going up and up with it. Had she gone up more, I was going to have to let her have it. But for me, I'm thinking, it's [for] charity, it's a good cause, and I'm not letting this kid take this painting from me."

"I'm going to teach you now little girl, you're not going to get everything you want," Perry joked.
