  • Jada Pinkett Smith discussed her hair journey in a TikTok video less than a week before the 2022 Oscars
  • The actress said she doesn't "give two craps what people think of this bald head of mine"
  • Chris Rock was not aware that Pinkett Smith has alopecia when he made the joke at the Oscars ceremony, a report says

Jada Pinkett Smith confidently spoke about her shaved head days before Sunday's 2022 Oscars ceremony.

Pinkett Smith found her struggle with hair loss at the center of an unexpected controversy at the Oscars after her husband Will Smith stormed the stage and slapped Chris Rock over the comedian's "G.I. Jane 2" joke directed at the actress.

Less than a week before the awards show, the "Red Table Talk" host, 50, got candid about her hair in a TikTok video.

The 50-year-old actress, who lives with alopecia, discussed her hair journey in the video captioned, "Crown Act. Be proud of your crown. #iamnotmyhair #hairjourney."

"Being a Black woman and dealing with hair in Hollywood, in the era I came up in, having your hair look as European as possible was always the thing, and that was really challenging, you know, because I liked my hair out wild and curly," she was quoted as saying in the video by People.

"But nobody wanted that, so I always had to do my hair in ways that didn't feel natural to me because I'm trying to play the game," she continued. "So if I'm doing a cover, everybody's [like], 'No, we want your hair straight and flowy,' when it's like, 'All right, cool, but that's not really what my hair likes to do.'"

Due to this, the "Matrix: Resurrections" actress said she's learned to have the courage to refuse suggestions and demands to change the way her hair looks.

"Which is why I feel the freedom today – I don't give two craps what people think of this bald head of mine. Because guess what? I love it," Pinkett Smith said before ending the video.

Pinkett Smith has been open about having alopecia in the past.

During a 2018 episode of her show "Red Table Talk," she recalled being terrified when the hair loss first started and she found handfuls of her hair falling from her head while in the shower.

"It was one of those times in my life where I was literally shaking in fear. That's why I cut my hair, and why I continue to cut it," she explained.

But though Pinkett Smith has spoken about her alopecia, an unnamed insider told TMZ that Rock was not aware of her condition when he made the joke at the Oscars ceremony.

The comedian "doesn't have a mean bone in his body," the tipster added.

Meanwhile, an unnamed source close to the Smith family told People that the "King Richard" actor was being reactive and didn't really think about the repercussion of his actions.

"It was very impulsive, and in the moment he was protecting his family," the insider told the outlet. "Jada was the only thing he was concerned about. He didn't even consider the ramifications or how shocking he would look. He just thought about protecting and went into that mode of protector and provider."

"The people who are closest to him know that wasn't the answer, and you can't resort to violence. It was an out-of-body moment for him," the source continued, adding that the people around the couple are "showing him a lot of support."

Smith issued a public apology to Rock via Instagram Monday. He admitted that he was wrong and out of line and said that he was embarrassed by his actions.
