Actor Mark-Paul Gosselaar has just been cast in FOX’s upcoming vampire-themed drama, “The Passage.”

According to TV Line, Gosselaar will play the role of federal agent Brad Wolgast, who will go on a run with a young girl named Amy Bellafonte (Saniyya Sidney). The latter is being targeted for the unholy government experiment. Brad and Amy will develop a close relationship with each other while the Feds try to hunt them down.

The upcoming series will be set in two timelines, so scenes will presumably switch from the present time to flashbacks of the past. “The Passage” will also follow Brad and Amy’s life in Colorado and Canada. In the former, the two meet in Project Noah as part of the government’s funded medical research. A drug will be tested that can turn young children into lethal killing machines and enhance their psychic abilities.

Brad and Amy later escape to Canada. While there, the two will come to the realization that Amy could be the only person who can save humanity. They will receive help from three characters who will join them in fighting to stop the infection that threatens mankind.

“The Passage” is adapted from Justin Cronin’s book series, and it centers on a post-apocalyptic world where vampires roam the earth and humans come together to survive. “The Passage” is the first book of a trilogy. It is followed by the 2012 novel, “The Twelve,” and the newly-released third installment, “The City of Mirrors.” The publication revealed that FOX already bought the rights to the novel even before it was published and wanted to initially release it for the big screen. But instead the network has opted to go for a television series.

Liz Heldens penned the script for the pilot, and the series will be executive produced by Matt Reeves. Other cast members include Genesis Rodriguez, Brianne Howey, BJ Britt and Jennifer Ferrin. According to Deadline, the pilot will be taking advantage of the fact that majority of its cast members just became available after their respective shows got canceled.

As of late, FOX hasn’t announced when “The Passage” will premiere.
