The Interview
Find out how you can watch “The Interview,” starring James Franco and Seth Rogen, on Kim Jong-Un’s birthday. Sony Pictures

It’s been two years since Sony Pictures released “The Interview,” which stars James Franco and Seth Rogen as journalists who set up an interview with North Korean leader Kim Jong-Un (Randall Park) only to be recruited by the CIA to assassinate him.

With the North Korean leader’s birthday on Sunday, now is likely the time many will want to watch the controversial comedy. After a limited release in 2014, “The Interview” was made available on various platforms for purchase, however, there is only one place to stream the movie. Crackle has the film available for free streaming but be warned, there are ads.

If you want to rent the “The Interview” it is available on iTunes, Google Play, the PlayStation Store and the Microsoft Store for $2.99. The movie can also be purchased on the same platforms as well as VUDU for $9.99.

Originally scheduled for a release in October 2014, Columbia Pictures delayed its debut after the North Korean government threatened action against the United States. The film was re-edited to make it more acceptable for North Korea and given a December 2014 release date.

A month before its release, Sony Pictures Entertainment’s parent company’s computers were hacked by Guardians of Peace, a group with ties to North Korea. The group also threatened terrorist attacks against theaters that showed the movie. Many cinemas opted not to show the film, which led Sony to releasing the movie online for rental and purchase on Dec. 24, 2014.

Since then, the film has grossed $40 million in digital rentals and earned $11. 2 million at the worldwide box office. While the film was successful financially, reviews were mixed. The movie currently holds a 51 percent approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
