The International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) has issued a "Red Notice" on Monday for Anne Sacoolas, a United States diplomat's wife who was involved in a vehicular accident in the United Kingdom, which resulted in the death of a teenager.

In December 2019, the U.K. charged Sacoolas, 42, in absentia for the death of 19-year-old Harry Dunn. She was reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road in Northamptonshire when she hit and killed the victim, who was on his motorbike. The crash happened Aug. 27, 2019.

According to reports, Sacoolas returned to the U.S. with her family a few weeks following the crash with the knowledge of the British Foreign Office. The agency agreed with the U.S. that Sacoolas, whose husband worked at the CIA base at the RAF Croughton in central England, had diplomatic immunity from criminal jurisdiction at the time of the accident.

Thus, her extradition warrant seeking her return to the U.K. was rejected. Fox News reported it was the office of the Secretary of State Mike Pompeo which rejected the extradition request.

"Secretary Pompeo's decision in that regard was final,” the State Department spokesperson said. “If the United States had granted the U.K.’s extradition request, it would have rendered the invocation of diplomatic immunity a practical nullity and would have set an extraordinarily troubling precedent.”

However, Dunn's parents were told in a recent email “the wanted circulations should be enacted” if Sacoolas were to leave the U.S.

A Red Notice is not an arrest warrant but "a request to law enforcement worldwide to locate and provisionally arrest a person pending extradition, surrender, or similar legal action,” per the Interpol's official site.

A spokesperson for Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson won’t say if the office asked for the Red Notice. On the other hand, a spokesperson for the Dunn family said on Twitter the Red Notice meant Sacoolas didn't actually have diplomatic immunity.

Dunn’s father and mother were in the U.S. in October to publicly ask for Sacoolas to deal with her case in the U.K.

“Face us as a broken family. Face our UK system and just do the right thing,” the family said during a press conference in Manhattan.
