Another Globe Globes is upon us, which means it’s time for another Golden Globe Ambassador. This year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association has bestowed the honor to Isan Elba, the daughter of award-winning actor Idris Elba. Before the 76th annual show on Sunday, get to know who will be giving winners with their awards onstage during the 2019 show.

How Old Is She?

Isan was just 16 years old when she learned she would be taking on the role of 2019 Golden Globe Ambassador. Now 17, Isan is a junior in high school and is beginning to look at colleges where she hopes to study film and television.

What Is Her Charitable Cause?

Traditionally, ambassadors will select a charitable cause to speak out about ahead of the award show. Isan has chosen to highlight mental-health awareness.

“Mental health, specifically among African-Americans and my peers in particular, is something I really want to be more vocal about. There’s this perceived stigma and I’ve seen friends struggle,” Isan said in a statement. “We need to empower young people to not be afraid to ask for help.’

Isan is the daughter of Idris, the 46-year-old actor known for his roles “Beasts Of No Nation” and “Luther.” Her mom, however, flies a little lower under the radar. Isan calls makeup artist Hanne Kim Norgaard mom. Kim was the first wife of Idris.

How Was She Chosen?

The HFPA picks offspring of celebrities to play ambassador each year (the event previously called the role Miss or Mister Golden Globe) but Isan had no idea she was even in the running. She told Variety that her dad submitted her name without telling her. Speaking to W Magazine, Isan shared more details about the moment she found out she was selected.

He'd told me there was a big surprise for me, and then we never had time to talk about it, so I was like, ‘Dad, what's the surprise, what's the surprise, what's the surprise?’ So finally he just sent me a text because he was so tired of me asking questions, and I was like, ‘Oh my gosh, is this actually for real?’ Because I've never done anything like this, and this is major and huge. And my mom was like, ‘Yeah, you're the Golden Globes Ambassador!’ So I was flipping out and screaming and totally fangirling to say the least.

She’s On Social Media

Isan frequently posts updates on Instagram for her 36K followers. She also has a Twitter account and YouTube channel. Currently, she has just one uploaded video which shows her Sweet 16 Winter Birthday Bash.

This Is Her First Golden Globes

Isan has supported her dad at numerous red carpet events, but this will be her first Golden Globe appearance.

“I watch them every year,” she told W Magazine. “We had a Golden Globes party when my dad won [2012], but I've never actually been, so the first time I'll be there is when I'm involved with it, which is pretty cool.”
