Time magazine dubbed Jamaica ‘The most homophobic place on Earth’: But it is just part of a much larger issue concerning the Caribbean. 11 countries have anti-sodomy laws in place, gay-bashing is not uncommon and some have linked the gay community to earth quakes.

The problems faced by the gay community in the Caribbean are deeply rooted in social norms and laws. You cannot even enter two Caribbean countries if you are in fact gay. It is this thinking that led one man to suggest that being gay in the Caribbean is the equivalent of being a left handed man in the middle Ages.

We sat down with Zoe Mintz to discover where this hatred stems from. She explained the history of the homophobia in the Caribbean and how if ever she believes it will cease.
