Although Kate Middleton and Camilla Parker Bowles appear to be in great spirits whenever they are photographed together, behind the scenes, the Duchess of Cornwall reportedly has an issue with the 38-year-old’s parents.

After Kate married Prince William in 2011, she became Prince Charles and Camilla’s daughter-in-law. However, the 72-year-old was unhappy when she learned Kate was a package deal.

According to those close to the royal family, Camilla jokingly referred to Kate’s parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, as “Meet the Fockers.” The name was based on a movie about unconventional in-laws that starred Robert de Niro and Dustin Hoffman.

Tensions reportedly began to rise between Kate and William’s parents after Prince George’s birth. Carole reportedly stepped in to control the George’s schedule, which left him with little time to spend with his father’s parents.

In 2015, a source told the Daily Mail that Prince Charles was especially upset with the way Kate’s parents controlled Prince George.

“Carole has rather taken over, dictating when George naps, when and what he eats. All in all, behaving like she’s Queen Carole,” the insider explained.

Despite speculation that alleged a feud between the grandparents, Camilla’s son, Tom Parker Bowles, slammed rumors of a rift between the families.

“Catherine knew her parents weren’t happy being seen as the more involved of the two sets of grandparents. Frankly, she felt it embarrassed them,” an insider revealed.

Despite rumors of issues between the grandparents, Kate reportedly looks up to Camilla. Royal expert, Imogen Llyod-Webber previously told People Now that Kate may follow Camilla’s decision to reject Princess Diana’s Princess of Wales title when Prince Charles becomes King, and her position in the monarchy changes.

“At some moment, William is going to become Prince of Wales,” she explained.

“At that moment there’s the question, is Kate going to choose to be called Princess of Wales? Camilla is actually Princess of Wales but, because of Diana, she opted to be the Duchess of Cornwall.”
